Visceral therapy is a gentle, healing abdominal massage — an ancient technique for restoring the whole body. The Latin term viscera literally translates to "internal organs". Abdomen was always considered the centre of life, and the method was widely used in Ancient China, India, Slavic cultures, Siberia. A session includes 30 minutes of vacuum therapy to release tension in the thoracoabdominal diaphragm, followed by 60 minutes of visceral massage. You can read more about this method, its indications and contraindications in 'Services'.
As a visceral and somatic therapist, I choose to see our unique body holistically. Anatomy, traditional Chinese medicine, visceral therapy, kinesiology, osteopathy, process-oriented psychology and somatic therapy are woven together in my work. My own journey of healing from endometriosis helps me understand people, especially women, with chronic pain better. I'm constantly hungry for discovering more and more about the body and efficient ways to heal it. So far, working with the abdomen proved its best for me and my clients. Thus visceral therapy became the heart of my therapeutic practice.

Abdominal massage helps to gently restore the proper position of the organs, which leads to improved posture. It relieves bloating and constipation, helps with gastritis, IBS. It works wonderfully with adhesions, scars, and pain of unclear origin.
Visceral therapy improves microcirculation in the organs, supports lymphatic drainage, and aids the elimination of toxins. It relieves venous congestion in the abdominal cavity, helps with edema. Abdominal massage restores blood flow in the pelvic floor, which helps address gynecological and urological symptoms.
Through gentle work with the thoraco-abdominal diaphragm, visceral therapy helps you reach full diaphragmatic breathing. This is how we breathe when we are born. Later, stress accumulated in the body causes the diaphragm to tighten, and it stops giving the internal organs enough massage on each inhale and exhale which in time leads to a symptom. Through abdominal massage, we learn to breathe correctly again.
Any massage, abdominal massage in particular, is a direct stimulus to the parasympathetic nervous system. It signals the body to "rest and digest". More and more research show that this mode (parasympathetic nervous system) is essential for healing.
I need to learn more about the context of your life, your medical history, past surgeries and allergies. In my experience, an important attunement to the space and to me happens during this conversation. It is essential so that your body can relax more deeply and trust my hands.
Placing a cup over the area of the thoraco-abdominal diaphragm for 30 minutes at the start of the session prepares the abdomen directly for the massage. It wonderfully releases spasm in the diaphragm, stimulates the gallbladder and activates lymph flow, since this area holds the largest lymphatic reservoir — the cisterna chyli. The procedure itself is painless and very relaxing.
For about 60 minutes I gently massage your abdomen, starting from the projection zone of the liver and gallbladder. I carefully work through the projection zones of all the internal organs. I palpate diagnostically and find possible areas of tension and congestion. With massage movements I gently restore the circulation of blood and lymph there, relaxing the muscles and fascia. I also carefully guide the organs back into place if they have been displaced due to injuries, inflammation, surgeries or pregnancy.
At the end I briefly work over the legs, sacrum, back, arms and neck. I finish the session with a pampering head massage, to give the body care and love from the tips of the toes to the crown of the head.

FAQ
In the method of visceral therapy that I trained in, only a gentle manual repositioning of the pelvis is allowed during the first trimester, and only if there is a rotation.
The massage itself is painless and very gentle. If you feel discomfort somewhere, please tell me — I will ease the pressure but stay in that area, because the discomfort signals congestion. The discomfort will gradually fade.
You should come to any of my services on an empty stomach, with your last meal 1.5 hours before the session. Drinking warm water is allowed and even recommended, especially before Pravka Romb Makosh.
